Chapter 8

Mullah Bashir is annoying. I didnt like his sermon at all. He has complete tunnel vision, not seeing a lot of other factors in the world. I also feel bad for Mohsen because he was forced to go to the sermon and he had to sit there with a worry for his wife. He even got caught looking back at her. Even though, at the same time i feel bad for Zunaira because she had to be publically humiliated for 2 hours while the sermon was going on. She had to sit on the steps in fear of the taliban. One false move and she could be accused of something that she might not have done. She also had to sit there with her face covered. That is enough humiliation in itself. I think that Zunaira and Mohsen should leave Kabul still because it is bad for their relationship and their lives. I still hate the taliban.

Mullah Bashir is the type of guy who is running the show for the Taliban. He preaches fear and hatred for America. Mohsen like many simply show up and put up with this stuff because they have to.

I kept waiting for Zunaria to be picked up by a Taliban patrol or something, but this doesn't happen. I can understand why she's furious at him though. ;-)

It's a good thing the USA defeated them back in 2001 right?

I know. I feel so terrible for Zunaira. She is one of the most independent women in Kabul. She knows who she is and who she wants to be, and she is proud of that fact. She has dignity, worth, and pride. Yet out of all the women that were on the streets, she is the one who has to sit there and hide all of that. She has to hide everything she is and everything she believes in just to live for a few more hours. No woman deserves this, but Zunaira especially did not. The Taliban are so unfair to everyone, especially women...
